Our Day Out In Oxfordshire

There is plenty to do in our local area and we are spoilt for choice.  Today was a lovely sunny day and we thought we would have a casual day out in Oxfordshire.

We have been National Trust Members for quite a few years and love a meander round a house, garden, a good walk in the woods or by the river.  A favourite of ours is Clivedon, but today we thought we would head to an unexplored house, Nuffield place in Oxfordshire.

Nuffield Place was the home to Lord and Lady Nuffield.  William Morris (Lord Nuffield) went onto to become one of the richest men in the world, although he left school at 15.  He was the founder of Morris Motors, and despite such wealth, lived a fairly modest life and donated so much to charity, including huge donations to medicine, and was responsible for mass producing the iron lung which is on display at the property.

The day we visited there were also extra vintage cars on display for visitors to look around.  And there is 9 acres of estate to wonder round. This includes 4 acres of gardens containing  a vegetable garden, potting shed, borders, wild flower garden and woodland walk.  The house has many rooms to explore and there are guided tours you can take, as well as the coffee shop and national trust shop.

We then left here and went onto Henley on Thames, also a regular favourite of ours and very local for us. We picked up a new purchase from the antique shop, The Vintage Look, in the high street. This is a fabulous shop if you are looking for something different and like to have a mooch around.  They sell everything from little nic knacks, to big items of furniture. We happened to walk out with a silver Nestle milk churn, from France, which we are going to intend to us as an umbrella stand. Love it!  We were lucky I only came out with just the one item as there was all sorts I could have purchased! (A link to the ‘Vintage Look’ is at the bottom of this page).

I also picked up a little something for the kitchen in a little side shop, little salt and pepper pots – how cute are these?! Love Henley. Definitely worth a visit if you have the chance and never been. There is plenty to see and do any time of the year!
