Home Made Humous Recipe

Making your own hummus is a joy and very easy to do! I like making a batch and keeping in the fridge as we use it in so many ways, so a snack or as part of a meal in sandwiches or lunchboxes or just a quick healthy option to grab. Looks great when entertaining and if i want it to look pretty for i might adorn it with pistachios and pomegranates seeds for a pop of colour – or maybe just spingle some hot paprika and maybe some crudites of some interesting chips, maybe as part of a platter. It makes a wnderful addition to an antipasti board and maybe some other dips like aubergine and broad bean for example.  You could also add extra to your hummus, by adding roasted garlic, roasted peppers, pesto, roasted aubergine and or serve it smooth or more textured too.

Have fun, Be creative…

Equipment

  • blender or food processor

Ingredients

  • 1 can of drained chickpeas
  • 2 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 4 tbsp water or I like a looser hummus so I add more water here and blitz for longer to make a smoother consistency but you can choose until you get what you like!
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tsp paprika

Instructions

  • Using your food processor or blender pop all the ingredients in and then whizz it up. This is the important bit. Give it a taste. You will undoubtedly need to adjust it. Does it need more salt, lemon juice, spice, cumin? Adjust until you are happy as this will make it a great hummus. You can blitz for shorter or longer period to make this a coarser or thinner hummus. And add more water as you go if you want to make it thinner.
  • If you wished you could pimp up your hummus and and add pesto, roasted veg, fresh chilli, roasted pine nuts, roasted garlic, the choice is yours!! Be creative and use this as a base.
